  • Full Time

Verge Genomics is seeking a Sr. Research Associate to join our Neurobiology Research and Drug Discovery team and contribute creatively to our efforts in finding therapies to treat CNS diseases. As a foundational member of our medicinal chemistry team, you will provide pharmaceutical chemistry and compound logistics support to our drug discovery programs, including compound formulations, logistics, analytical chemistry, and physicochemical analysis. You will perform pre-formulation characterization of small molecules, and work independently to maintain thorough inventories of all compounds at Verge. You will work closely with contract research organizations (CROs) to assure the quality of compounds using HPLC, LC/MS and other analytical techniques. Dedication to teamwork will be important, as you will be a central part of all experimental studies at our brand new, state-of-the-art laboratories in South San Francisco.

Company Summary:

Currently, it takes on average 12 years and $2.6 billion to get a single drug to market, with the drug discovery and development process costing $1.4 billion. Verge Genomics recently raised $32 million in Series A financing to change this broken model by fueling the drug discovery pipeline with machine learning.

At Verge Genomics, we are building a next-generation biopharmaceutical company using a data-driven model to accelerate development of life-saving treatments for patients within their lifetimes. Our platform is specifically designed for neurological diseases and can analyze thousands of datasets to identify new targets, predict effective drugs, and stratify patient subpopulations. Verge's genomic network approach offers a breakthrough opportunity to identify drugs that dramatically improve patient outcomes and fundamentally bend the cost curve of pharmaceutical development.

We are looking for extraordinary individuals to join our motivated team in taking on our generation’s biggest healthcare challenges: Alzheimer’s Disease, ALS, and Parkinson’s Disease. Our employees are our most important assets - we are a team of founders, excited to learn, roll up our sleeves, and make a real impact.

You will be excited to work here because you will:

  • Provide small molecule formulation support for experimental studies
  • Design and implement a compound logistics and request system
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive database of all compounds at Verge, including their physicochemical properties and in vitro and in vivo preclinical profiles
  • Manage and source all compounds, identify suppliers, order, receive, formulate, prepare, and ship them to external CROs and laboratories with information for storage and handling
  • Establish optimal formulation, stability, and other QC steps to support in vitro and in vivo screening of all reference and proprietary compounds
  • Ensure 100% of compounds contained within system are pure by managing analytical chemistry at CROs
  • Maintain detailed lab records and databases that are readily accessible and interpretable by Verge personnel

Verge Genomics is an exciting and well-funded new startup and can provide multiple growth opportunities into other areas of the company. As one of the early employees at Verge, your work will have a direct impact on the foundation of a groundbreaking new drug discovery and development model. In addition to a competitive compensation and benefits package, we offer perks such as unlimited vacation/sick days, on-site gym access, and free lunch.

Verge actively seeks a diverse applicant pool in order to build the strongest possible workforce. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

  • BS/MS in Chemistry or related discipline with 2-5 years of industry experience
  • Experience with small molecule formulations in a pre-clinical settin
  • Understanding of analytical techniques used to assess purity and QC of compounds, such as HPLC, LCMS, and NMR
  • Familiarity with compound registration systems
  • Experience using compound logistics systems for request and fulfillment
  • Previous experience working with CROs is a plus
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • A strong desire to work at a startup
